A woman was discovered dead inside her Niagara Street apartment, after police were called to check on her welfare late Friday afternoon.

The circumstances of the woman’s death appear to be suspicious, Chief of Detectives Dennis J. Richards said Saturday. Her name was not released.

Police, who are awaiting autopsy results from the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office, were called Friday afternoon to a third-floor apartment of Shoreline Apartments, 200 Niagara St., where the middle-age woman lived, neighbors said Saturday.

The woman was quiet, kept to herself and apparently lived alone, one Shoreline resident said.

“She didn’t bother nobody, didn’t talk to nobody,” said neighbor Henry Patterson, who did not know the woman’s name. “It’s just a sad situation.”
