The Common Council this week will continue to discuss plans for an expanded plaza at the Peace Bridge.

Neighbors concerned about health problems caused by diesel exhaust have spoken up at recent Council meetings, and Council Members Joseph Golombek and David A. Rivera have submitted different pieces of legislation regarding the expansion plans.

Golombek is calling for officials named in a Buffalo News story about a short-lived discussion in Washington, D.C., to remove trucks from the bridge, to address the Council. Rivera is calling for federal and state officials to provide more information about those discussions.

Golombek is also calling for an investigation into whether environmental laws were followed during recent Peace Bridge projects.

The Council will also take up items related to derelict properties and slumlords when it meets in regular session at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Council Chambers.
