South Buffalo Charter School, 2219 South Park Ave., is inviting the public in for an open house at 6 p.m. Thursday in advance of a new school facility that is set to open this summer.

School representatives will discuss the new school, at 154 S. Ogden St., which will ultimately serve 900 students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Applications for the new school are now being accepted.

Students, parents and faculty will give presentations about the school, as will other organizations that work with it, including Tifft Nature Preserve, the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens and the Buffalo Museum of Science.

• The Planning Board will meet at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday in Room 901 in City Hall, and will hold a public hearing and consider plans for 40 housing units in three buildings surrounding a former church tower at 375 Colvin Ave.

• The Common Council will hold a special meeting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to vote on the appointment of a new Council member, who will represent the University District. The successful candidate must get five votes in order to secure the seat.

• The Council’s Civil Service Committee will meet at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday in Council Chambers.

• The Buffalo Urban Development Corp. will meet at noon Tuesday in the fifth-floor conference room at 95 Perry St.

• The Council’s Community Development Committee will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Council Chambers. A resolution calling for a separate auction of properties slated for demolition is on the agenda.

• The Council’s Legislation Committee will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Council Chambers. A resolution calling for fines from housing violations be added to property tax bills is on the agenda.

• The Council’s Claims Committee will meet at 11 a.m. in Council Chambers.
