A public hearing on a request to demolish the former Erie Freight House on the Buffalo River will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Room 901 of City Hall.

Savarino Companies is planning apartments and office space at the site, but the freight house, at 441 Ohio St., has been designated a city landmark, and the Preservation Board has to approve the demolition request.

Developer Samuel J. Savarino has said he would move whatever materials are able to be saved and use them in a new location, but said the building has been damaged by water and is unable to be rehabilitated.

A vote on the request, by the Preservation Board, is possible after the hearing.

The project has already won Planning Board approval.
