West Side Neighborhood Housing Services has been designated one of 42 NeighborWorks Green Organizations nationally for its commitment to sustainable business practices.

The organization, at 359 Connecticut St., was singled out for maintaining flexible hours to save energy and reduce commuting; establishing green commuting incentives and a green purchasing policy; covering green topics to save money and to protect home investments through counselng and education programs; and addressing food access in neigborhoods, including sponsorship of a community garden.

“The green strategies we have adopted save families money, improve health outcomes and reduce our environmental impact,” said Linda Chiarenza, the West Side agency’s executive director.
