Buffalo’s Valley Community Association has received nearly $1.5 million in grants from local foundations, nonprofit organizations and the state government, Executive Director Margaret “Peg” Overdorf reports.

The grants include $300,000 for three years from the state Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program; $250,000 in state funds from State Sen. Timothy M. Kennedy, D-Buffalo; and $160,000 for two years from the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County.

Other grants include $22,000 from the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, $10,000 from CSX and $5,000 from the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp.

The grants will support the VCA’s youth and senior services programs, waterfront revitalization projects and its Striving for Excellence programs.
