Two West Side men caught a would-be burglar early Saturday after one of them saw the suspect on the roof of a Connecticut Street convenience store and chased him.
Police said a 29-year-old man spotted a man wearing a black mask on top of the Corner Store at Connecticut and 14th Street at 12:28 a.m.
The suspect ran away, but the witness, joined by a 57-year-olf man, caught him on Normal Avenue and held him for police.
Police said the suspect had a black book bag containing two pairs of pliers, cutters, wrenches, a pocket knife, duct tape and a multi tool.
They said the suspect got on the roof by standing on a recycling bin on the west side of the building and shimmying up some pipes.
David J. Avolio, 19, of 14th Street, was charged with attempted third-degree burglary, a felony, and possession of burglar’s tools, a misdemeanor.
