A $250,000 grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation will assist the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur as they build a new wing at their congregation headquarters, St. Mary Center, at 24 Lafayette Ave.

The congregation of 77 Catholic nuns is overhauling its residences to provide better care for elderly sisters.

The Oishei gift is part of a $2.5 million capital campaign that has raised $2.1 million so far.

The sisters say that the $5 million construction project, which began last fall, will improve the congregation’s ministry and contribute to the revitalization of the Lafayette-Grant neighborhood.
