Civil rights leader the Rev. C. T. Vivian, who marched with Martin Luther King Jr., will lead students in a 50th anniversary re-enactment of the Freedom March to kick off an event this morning celebrating Black History Month and sponsored by Canisius College.
Vivian and the students, from grades 6 to 12, will march along Franklin Street at 8:30 a.m. and into the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center to begin “Reaching Back, Moving Forward,” an education, health and economic development forum. It is free and open to the public.
Vivian will speak at 9 a.m.
A panel discussion will follow. After that, education breakout sessions will be held until 2 p.m. For information, call 888-3280.
