Buffalo Common Council President Darius Pridgen will be the keynote speaker for a program on civil rights in America and the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the ceremonial courtroom on the second floor of Erie County Courthouse, 92 Franklin St.

The event will include remarks by Erie County Family Court Support Magistrate Judge Lenora Foote-Beavers; Laura Lineball, president-elect of the Western New York chapter of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York; and Ericka Bennett, president of the Minority Bar Association of Western New York.

Musical selections will be presented by the Colored Musicians Club, and a video on the civil rights movement will be shown to commemorate the signing of the legislation into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on July 2, 1964.

The event is sponsored by the 8th Judicial District Diversity Committee, the Minority Bar Association of Western New York and the Diversity Committee of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York.
