Erie County officials were set to join the executive director of the Lt. Col. Matt Urban Human Services Center at 2 p.m. Wednesday to cut the ribbon on Hope House, a new fifty-bed emergency homeless shelter for women and children on Buffalo’s East Side.

County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz, Social Services Commissioner Carol Dankert-Maurer, and Matt Urban Executive Director Marlies A. Wesolowski were scheduled to preside over the ceremony.

Hope House, 586 Genesee St., is located on the site of a former daycare center. The structure underwent major remodeling prior to its rebirth as a shelter aimed at providing emergency housing and other crucial services intended to reduce trauma on homeless children, and quickly restore permanent housing to homeless families.
