Mary Jean Jakubowski, director of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library since 2011, has been appointed to a second three-year term, Jack Connors, chairman of the library’s board of trustees, announced Thursday.

“We are proud to have Mary Jean Jakubowski as director because she serves the entire community,” Connors said. “She is a strong, dedicated and creative leader who is totally committed, as well as fully immersed, in the workings of our great library system.”

Jakubowski, who has a master’s degree in library science from the University at Buffalo, worked in health care before joining the library system as a librarian in 1992. Before becoming director, she had been the library’s chief operating officer since 2005.
