A house was reduced to charred timbers by a fire early this morning on Johnson Street in Buffalo.
Firefighters were dispatched to 302 Johnson St. at 12:48 a.m., according to a fire dispatcher. Because of heavy fire conditions, 3rd Battalion Chief Mark Hillery had crews working from a defensive position.
A piece of heavy machinery, used to fight hot spots, got stuck in the debris and will have to be retrieved.
Damage to the 2 1/2-story wood frame structure was estimated at $40,000, the dispatcher said.
No injuries were reported, and it’s unknown if the house had been occupied. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
