A man shoplifter who stabbed a male employee in the abdomen at the Gates Circle Wine and Liquor store at 1432 Delaware Ave. was arrested shortly after the Friday night attack, police said.
The store clerk, who was stabbed while trying to confront the accused shoplifter about 7:30 p.m., was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of what police described as a non-life-threatening injury.
Northwest District police charged Darnell Wells, 31, of Oxford Avenue, with second-degree assault, petit larceny, menacing and weapons possession, according to police reports. Officers also arrested Shawna Boyd, 34, of the same Oxford Avenue address, after she was accused of throwing several punches at employees and using loud and obscene language.
Police claimed that Wells used a red-handled knife in the stabbing after taking a $25 bottle of sparkling wine.
