The deadline is Aug. 30 for block clubs and other organizations to order trees through Re-Tree WNY to replace those in public areas that were lost in the Oct. 12, 2006, surprise snowstorm. Four hundred trees are available.
Organizations should visit www.re-treewny.org and click on the “Calendar” section for the link to request trees. Trees and supplies are available at no charge.
The Buffalo Public Works Department has the final say on where trees may be planted and what species may be used.
Re-Tree WNY also is seeking volunteers to help with three other planting projects this fall. They involve the planting of 110 trees at Daemen College on Oct. 26; 300 trees at Forest Lawn on Nov. 1 and 2; and 75 trees in Buffalo’s Old First Ward on Nov. 9.
For information, visit the Re-Tree WNY website calendar page or call chairman Paul D. Maurer at 553-4061.
