Nearly 100 people attended promotion ceremonies this morning at Buffalo Police Headquarters as 11 department personnel advanced in rank.
“2014 will be a good year,” Mayor Byron W. Brown told the friends, family members and police officers who watched the proceedings, conducted by Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda and Chief of Detectives Dennis J. Richards. “There will be more opportunities for police training and technology,” Brown said, noting the decrease this year in violent crime and crime overall.
Derenda read the oaths of office for promotions to four different ranks: inspector, captain, lieutenant and detective:
• Chief Anthony J. Barba was promoted to inspector,
• Lts. Ronald E. Jentz, Carmen J. Menza and Barbara A. Lark were promoted to captain.
• Officers Alphonso Wright, James D. Hosking, Scott A. Blesy and Jeremy W. Connolly were named lieutenants.
• Officers Valerie D. Stover-Kelly, Jerry J. Guilian and Michael D. Long were promoted to detective.
