A traffic incident at an East Side intersection led to the arrest of an 18-year-old Harvard Place man, Buffalo Police reported on Sunday.
Ronald Mile was arrested on Saturday after police found him hiding in a garage on Hazelwood Avenue, more than two hours after a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen at the intersection of William L. Gaiter Parkway and Warwick Avenue.
A 74-year-old city man told police he was stopping his Jeep at the intersection about 2:35 p.m. when he thought he “hit something.” When the motorist got out of the Jeep and looked around, police said, a young man walked up to him, struck him in the face and said, “You hit me.”
The young man then pushed the motorist out of the way, jumped into his Jeep and drove away. Police said they later spotted the Jeep driving along Hagen Street. When officers pursued the Jeep, two young men abandoned the vehicle and ran away.
Officers said they found Mile hiding in the garage but reported on Sunday that they still were looking for a second suspect. Mile faces charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and possession of stolen property.
