Long-anticipated scores from the city of Buffalo’s firefighter exam are out after months of review by the Department of Justice, and the city hopes a new class of 50 firefighters will begin in the fire academy in September.
About 2,500 prospective firefighters took the exam in November, hoping to become the newest members of the Buffalo Fire Department. The city mailed scores to candidates on Wednesday.
By next month, the city will identify candidates who will be administered agility tests, which is the next phase in the city’s selection process.
The city originally estimated that the test scores would be released in January.
The city plans to hire 50 new firefighters from the list, which can be used for subsequent hires and will be good for four years.
