The next head of the FBI in Buffalo will be an agent with a background in cyberthreat investigations.

Brian P. Boetig, former director of the National Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force, was named Tuesday as special agent in charge of the FBI office in Buffalo.

Boetig, who began his career with the FBI in 1998, most recently served at the federal center that serves as multi-agency coordinator for cyberthreat investigations.

He replaces Christopher Piehota, who left Buffalo in April to become director of the Terrorist Screening Center in Washington, D.C.
