The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County are reaching out for new members.
The organization will host a mixer Thursday from 5:30-8 p.m. at Fat Bob’s Smokehouse at 41 Virginia Place in Buffalo. The aim is twofold: informing the Western New York community about what the program entails, and finding new recruits.
Big Brothers/Big Sisters spend several hours each month with their Little Brother or Sister. The pairing plays games, enjoys meals together and participates in various other activities in an effort to give the child guidance and a role model to look up to.
“As a Big Sister or Big Brother you enjoy seeing how much your Little benefits from the time you spend together but, in the back of your mind, you also know there are 200 kids that are still waiting for this opportunity,” said Christine Farrow, a board member.
At Thursday’s event, there will be complimentary hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and door prizes. This is the group’s second mixer this year.
