Immigration reform advocates gathered Friday at the Main Street headquarters of labor union SEIU 1199 as part of a national push to pressure Congress to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill.

About 50 people representing six counties attended the forum, organized by the Western New York Coalition for Real Immigration Reform, which includes labor, social justice and faith-based groups.

Richard Lipsitz, president of the Western New York Area Labor Federation, was the keynote speaker.

The event was one of 100 nationwide, including the National Immigrant March for Dignity and Respect in Brooklyn today, calling for legislation that includes a pathway to citizenship, promotes family unity and protects workers rights.
