The City of Buffalo will no longer collect unwanted electronic waste discarded by individuals at the curb, Mayor Byron W. Brown has announced.

Disposing e-waste is illegal for city residents, and it is illegal for landfills to accept e-waste. First-offense violators will have a notice placed on the electronic item or on their door. Repeat offenders will be fined $75.

E-waste includes computers, printers, toner cartridges, computer accessories, televisions, tablets, scanners, audio equipment, video equipment and circuit boards.

Under state law, manufacturers of electronic equipment are required to provide free and convenient collection. City residents can also drop off electronic waste for recycling at the City of Buffalo Engineering Garage, 1120 Seneca St., Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the first Saturday of the month, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Senior citizens or disabled residents should contact the Division of Citizen Services by calling 311 or 851-4890 to make special arrangements.
