The Buffalo school district was awarded a $199,000 grant by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to support students enrolled in green technology and energy programs at Olmsted School 156 and McKinley High School.

A total of 126 students in grades 10 through 12 in Olmsted’s green technology program and in McKinley’s electrical program and its heating, ventilation and air conditioning program will benefit from the grant, as will some middle school students.

The grant was announced Monday by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo as part of $1.1 million awarded to five districts with clean-energy training programs. The grant awards are part of a broader goal to foster a clean energy workforce by supporting STEM – science, technology, engineering and math – training.
