A Buffalo man was sentenced Monday to 3½ years in prison for breaking into his pregnant girlfriend’s home last year and attacking her, leading to the miscarriage of their unborn daughter.
Julien McCrayer, 33, had pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary in the April 25, 2013, attack on his estranged girlfriend, who was 20 weeks pregnant at the time. He had faced a maximum prison term of 15 years.
McCrayer was originally charged with burglary and second-degree abortion, a felony carrying a maximum four-year prison term.
Prosecutors said McCrayer was infuriated at the prospect of having to pay child support for another child and returned to the victim’s home about two hours after police had removed him from the residence. He broke down the door and beat the woman while screaming threats and profanities, prosecutors said.
State Supreme Court Justice Deborah A. Haendiges issued an order of protection, directing McCrayer to have no contact with the victim and their son for 10 years.
McCrayer, who had no prior criminal record, did not speak during sentencing.
