The little cars came from all over the U.S. – California and Washington State, Texas and Arizona, South Carolina and Florida – and from at least two Canadian provinces to Buffalo’s party for the Mini Takes the States national road rally Thursday evening at Buffalo RiverWorks on Ganson Street amid the historic grain elevators.
There were hundreds and hundreds of Minis – convertibles and coupes, Clubmen and Countrymen, many with vanity license plates like JLYGOOD (Ohio), 4MOTORN (Montana) and NOT CUTE (New York).
Janet and Mike Nielsen, who pulled into the all-Mini parking lot in a Countryman with Colorado plates, had done the whole cross-country trek, starting in San Francisco on July 26.
The party, sponsored by the local dealer, Towne Mini, included a big buffet featuring Buffalo fare – pizza, chicken wings, beef on weck. The Minis head today for Bethlehem, Pa., en route to their final stop Saturday night at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, Mass.
