A brief power outage this afternoon affected about 3,000 National Grid customers in Evans.

National Grid spokesman Steve Brady said the outage occurred about 12:20 a.m. and power was restored an hour later.

“They didn’t all come back on at the same time. We did it in phases. So some were out a little longer than the others,” Brady said.

Lakeshore High School also was affected, said Brady, who blamed the outage on a tree along the Lake Erie shoreline that took down some wires. He added that National Grid had been experiencing outages throughout the morning – mostly along the Lake Erie shoreline, from Pennsylvania to South Buffalo.

“The wind has just picked up. You don’t have to go too far inland and it seems to die off pretty quickly, but we’ve been chasing one- and two-customer outages ... pretty much most of the morning,” Brady added.
