The memorial service for Ben Sauer, to be held at 11 a.m. today in The Chapel at Crosspoint in Getzville, will be live-streamed at Eastern Hills Wesleyan Church, 8445 Greiner Road, Clarence, to accommodate all those who supported the 5-year-old during his three-month battle with cancer.
“Because of the amazing outpouring of support that was shown by the 5,000 to 8,000 people who attended the benefit that was done for Ben, it is expected that his service will draw equal interest as we join the family in celebrating his life,” Pastor Pat Jones said in a news release announcing the simulcast. “In order to help provide a way for people to participate in the service, we are going to open up Eastern Hills as an alternative site to which it will be live-streamed.”
Jones said pastoral staff will be on hand and that Ben’s parents, Andy and Mindy Sauer, will be notified of those who attend.
Ben, who was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor earlier this year, died at his family’s home in Clarence Center Tuesday evening. His cause drew wide community support through the Blue4Ben campaign, with churches, schools and businesses raising money for his treatment and to support Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
The church has posted on the “Next Gen” section of its website, easternhillschurch.org, resources to help parents of younger children talk about death and grief.
The service will also be available online at thechapel.com.
