BATAVIA – A memorial honoring Genesee County residents who died during four wars in the 20th Century will be rededicated at 11 a.m. Saturday
The black granite slabs list 283 war dead and was first unveiled in 1951 at Genesee Memorial Hospital. In a merger that created United Memorial Medical Center and an expanded surgical wing, the monument had to be moved.
It is now next to The Jerome Center, an urgent care service of United Memorial Medical Center, in a small park at the edge of the business district.
A committee from veterans organizations raised $130,000 for the project whose dedication is on Armed Forces Day.
