BATAVIA – In a flurry of interest in the City Council, nine candidates are running for three at-large seats for four years that will be decided Nov. 5.
Brooks M. Hawley, who was appointed to the Council last year, is running, as are two endorsed Republicans, John Deleo and Eugene A. Jankowski. The three candidates also are supported by the Conservative party.
Hawley is the son of Assemblyman Stephen M. Hawley, whose father, R. Stephen Hawley, also served in the Assembly.
The other candidates have the support of eight minor parties, including Fair Shake, Working Families and Better Batavia.
They include Rose Mary Christian, a 6th Ward councilwoman for 20 years, and two Libertarian party hopefuls, James M. Rosenbeck and Lisa M. Whitehead. Also running are Diane K. Kastenbaum, Thomas R. Clark and John F. Demske.
The Council also has six ward representatives who face election again next year.
