BATAVIA – Mark C. Schoell, chief executive officer of the United Memorial Medical Center for the past ten years, is retiring at the end of this year.
The Orchard Park resident, formerly with the Catholic Health System in Buffalo, guided major changes that followed the year 2000 merger of St. Jerome and Genesee Memorial hospitals.
Among them are a $20 million surgical suite, several clinics including Urgent Care Centers in Batavia and LeRoy, numerous new physicians and conversion of the former hospital into The Jerome Center with offices, laboratory and 37 senior living apartments.
Daniel P. Ireland of Byron, named president last year, will assume the CEO’s role at the same time UMMC completes an affiliation process with the Rochester Regional Health System.
The 131-bed Batavia facility will operate on its own but will share services that are not now available.
