Today is the debut of Food Trucks -N- Fire Trucks at Firemen’s Field on Pine Street.
From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., about 10 trucks will be serving up everything from chili to tacos, ice cream, macaroni and cheese, and crepes.
The event has replaced the Fire Department’s 47-year-old traditional summer ox roast, which was suffering from dwindling attendance.
“I think it’s going to work out great,” said Larry Roland, the East Aurora volunteer firefighter organizing the smorgasbord. “Everyone thinks it’s a good idea.”
But two ox roast traditions will be served: Manhattan-style clam chowder, and Limburger cheese and onion sandwiches.
“There’s not a food truck that has that,” said Roland. “It’s a neat thing.”
