A world-wise East Aurora High School team will head to Washington, D.C. for a national “World Quest” competition where kids answer questions about current events, language, literature and pop culture. It will mark the second year in a row for the high school team to make the trip.
The winning team, one of three from East Aurora High that competed against other local high schools last month, was coached by Kevin Weigel, a government and global history teacher.
“The students are almost naturally curious,” said Weigel, praising their willingness to drive to Buffalo to compete and go on field trips to hear speakers at the University at Buffalo.
Seniors on the team who will head to D.C. in April are Anne Conron, Grant Haffendon, Collin O’Connor and Zach Felder. Felder helped the group with his experience on last year’s winning team.
“It’s rare to win back to back,” Weigel said.
