The East Aurora village board approved a new restaurant set to open next summer with its own small “nano” brewery on Main Street, next to the Bar Bill Tavern.

The yet-to-be-named restaurant at 189 Main, where there is now a health food store, will brew an estimated 30 gallons of beer a week from locally grown hops and barley, said its owner Clark Crook, who also owns Bar Bill.

After the board voted at its Monday night meeting, Crook said he was reluctant to elaborate about his project because he wanted it to be a surprise.

While Bar Bill has an iconic reputation and is known for its wings and roast beef, the new, bigger restaurant will have a distinctly different menu and about 1,600 square feet, compared to the Bar Bill’s 1,000.

Crook said he hopes the patrons of the new establishment will help pick the name. “This community likes to adopt its treasures,” he said. “It’ll be fun.”
