The Youngmann Memorial Highway bridge at Colvin Boulevard has been renamed the “New York State Trooper Kevin P. Dobson Sr. Memorial Bridge” after the 14-year veteran who was struck and killed by a vehicle in March 2011 during a traffic stop in the area.
Legislation memorializing the bridge sponsored by State Sen. Timothy Kennedy and Assemblyman Robin L. Schimminger was signed into law Friday by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo.
“The designation of the ‘New York State Trooper Kevin P. Dobson, Sr. Memorial Bridge’ will serve as a reminder for all Western New Yorkers that our highways were made safe by Trooper Dobson and his brothers and sisters in uniform,” Kennedy said in a statement.
Signs along I-290 marking the dedication should be installed by the end of the year. A sign honoring the trooper known as “Dobber” was unveiled in July 2011 at the Colvin Boulevard entrance ramp to the highway.
