A two-alarm “plus” Amherst house fire on Berkley Road, between Wehrle Drive and Main Street, is being fought by three volunteer fire companies, which began responding at 11:33 a.m. today, fire officials said.

The blaze in the one-story ranch home, 300 Berkley, was deemed out of control at 11:56 a.m. and a neighboring home has also been damaged by the fire, but no injuries have been reported.

No one was believed to have been inside 300 Berkley when the fire started, the officials said, adding that live electrical wires are down in the backyard.

Main Transit Fire Company was the first on the scene, following by Williamsville and Harris Hill fire companies. East Amherst and Bowmansville fire companies are on standby.
