TORONTO — The Rochester Americans finished in seventh place for the third straight season in the Western Conference, closing the American Hockey League regular season with a 4-3 loss to the Toronto Marlies before 7,014 at the Ricoh Coliseum.

Josh Leivo scored the tying goal early in the third period for Toronto while Sam Carrick tallied the game winner with 2:25 left.

The Amerks will face either the defending Calder Cup champion Grand Rapids Griffins or the Chicago Wolves in the opening round of the playoffs. That best-of-five series will begin Friday in Rochester.

Tim Schaller had two goals for the Amerks while Frederick Roy had the other. Phil Varone finished the regular season as Rochester’s leading scorer with 18 goals and 43 assists for 61 points.
