BELFAST – One person was killed Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer and a mid-sized car in Allegany County, state police reported.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was killed when, after the initial collision, his truck smashed into a tree, at about 10:30 a.m. at Route 19 and County Road 17 (White Creek Road) in the Town of Belfast, according to authorities.

Troopers said that a Hyundai Sonata traveling northeast on 17 failed to stop at the stop sign, colliding with the tractor-trailer heading south on Route 19.

Following the initial collision, the tractor-trailer went off the east shoulder of the road and struck the tree. The driver of the car was taken by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

The names of the two drivers were not immediately released.
