AMITY – A man was arrested Saturday after holding police at bay for several hours in an armed standoff.
State Police said Rueben J. Stocking, 36, of Amity, triggered a physical altercation in a home on Ackerman Hill Road. Police were called, but before they arrived, Stocking had run into some nearby woods, armed with a gun. The residents of the home fled as Stocking headed back to his home and remained inside.
After lengthy discussions with the State Police Crisis Negotiation Team, Stocking gave himself up and was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors stemming from the original altercation. Stocking was jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail after arraignment in Town of Friendship Court.
