LOCKPORT – A Level 3 sex offender from the Elmira area agreed Thursday to plead guilty to injuring his ex-girlfriend May 23 in Royalton in exchange for the minimum sentence for a repeat felon.
Christopher J. Colon, 36, of Barton, admitted to aggravated criminal contempt for violating a restraining order issued in 2010, when he was convicted of assaulting the same woman in Middleport.
Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas promised Colon a sentence of two to four years in prison; she’ll make it official March 24, and in the meantime Colon is behind bars in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Assistant District Attorney Cheryl L. Nichols said she agreed not to prosecute Colon for calls and letters to the woman from jail. She said the deal saved the woman from having to testify in a trial.
Colon is on the sex offender registry because of a 1999 sodomy conviction in Tioga County, involving a 12-year-old girl.
