Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has signed a bill extending the Niagara Wine Trail into Orleans and Monroe counties, State Sen. George D. Maziarz, R-Newfane, announced Friday.

The bill splits the trail into Ridge and Lake sections. The Niagara Wine Trail Ridge runs along Route 104 from Ferry Avenue in Niagara Falls to Interstate 390 outside Rochester.

The Niagara Wine Trail Lake runs from the Niagara Falls Boulevard exit on Interstate 290 to the intersection of Niagara Falls Boulevard and Shawnee Road in Wheatfield, and then along that road, which is Route 425, to Wilson. From there, the trail turns east on Route 18, ending at its intersection with Quaker Road in Somerset.

The two sections now include a total of 17 wineries, with more under development, Maziarz said.
