The Erie County Sheriff’s Office refused to confirm or deny a report Sunday night that they were investigating an apparent murder and suicide nearly 24 hours earlier on Sandridge Road in the Town of Alden.

The office said it expected to have a statement about it Monday morning.

The reported crime is believed to have occurred in the 1700 block of Sandridge, a residential stretch of road between Broadway and Westwood Road just outside the village limits, although neighbors there said they were unaware of any such report.

State Police also refused to confirm or deny the report, but when asked directly whether they were involved in it, said: “The sheriffs are handling that.”

The Erie County Medical Examiner’s office refused to say whether a medical examiner had been called to the scene.

A sheriff’s spokesman said Capt. Greg Savage would have a statement about it Monday morning.

Time Warner Cable News quoted state police as saying they responded to a call about a domestic dispute on Sandridge Road around 12:30 a.m. Sunday and they believe it led to a murder-suicide. Time Warner quoted the Sheriff’s Office as saying it was conducting an on-going criminal investigation there but that it would not comment further.
