Erie County Democrats are rallying around their hometown candidate for lieutenant governor.

While it may not come as a big surprise that the Erie County Democrat Executive Committee announced their unanimous support for Kathy Hochul on Wednesday, it comes just after The New York Times endorsed Timothy Wu, a law professor at Columbia University who is running for the office as an independent-minded Democrat.

At a meeting in Buffalo Wednesday night, Erie County Democrat Executive Committee and town and zone leaders joined forces to announce their unanimous support for the Cuomo-Hochul ticket and recommit their voting turnout operations in support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and Hochul in the September 9 primaries.

In honor of Hochul’s birthday, the Erie County Dems presented the candidate with a huge cake that said “Happy Birthday to our Favorite Daughter,” with candles that spelled “LG.”

“There’s no place like home – and I’m absolutely thrilled to have the united support of the Erie County Democrats. Western New York has seen unprecedented economic progress under Governor Cuomo and we can’t afford to go backwards now,” said Lt. Governor candidate Kathy Hochul. “With the support of Democrats here and across the state, you can count on me to keep fighting for our communities as Lt. Governor.”
