A community meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday for town and village residents concerned about two group homes recently opened by People Inc.

The meeting will be held in the basement of Newstead Public Library, 33 Main St., Akron.

Rhonda Frederick, chief operating officer at People Inc. – a non-profit human services agency, and Kirk Mauer, regional director of the state Office for People With Developmental Disabilities, will be on hand to answer questions.

Residents living near the homes on Rapids and Buckwheat roads first voiced their concerns to municipal officials late last month. Residents of Rapids Road, in particular, are worried about convicted sex offenders being moved into the area without advance notice.
