Akron/Newstead

The Town Board is holding a public hearing at 7:15 p.m. Monday in Newstead Town Hall, 5 Clarence Center Road, Akron to discuss an amendment to the current Special Events Law. The town is looking to impose minimum starting and ending times for events and set a decibel level live music cannot exceed during concerts.

While the amendment will impact all events in the town, complaints about the noisy concerts at Braun’s Concert Cove prompted the board to look at placing new provisions in the law.

Braun’s has been a point of contention in the town since the concerts began last year, and residents who live near the venue have already viewed the proposed amendment and suggested changes to it.

The board walks a fine line, as they want to make Newstead a business-friendly town while still addressing resident’s concerns. The public hearing on Monday promises to be lively and well-attended.
