The Special Events Law the Town Board has been working on for several months should be on its way to a second public hearing sometime in February.
The board held a work session after the regular meeting Monday night and decided that the law would be finished at the next meeting, Jan. 27.
In the meantime, board members are going to write down their suggestions on the way the law is currently written and submit those suggestions to Supervisor David Cummings by Jan. 23. The law was presented during the work session, where the board members decided that it still needed to be reworked.
The law was brought up during the question period of the meeting by a resident who lives near Braun’s Concert Cove. Complaints on the noise from the concerts at Braun’s have prompted the town to look at ways to limit the aural impact on the surrounding area.
“I’m really worried about health issues,” said Sue Fay Allen, who noted that the noise impacts over 100 people. “I would like to encourage you to get a sound ordinance and to schedule a public hearing. Please do it soon.”
The board is looking at announcing when the public hearing on the law will be at the first meeting in February, Cummings said.
In other board news, the rules for residents wishing to address the Town Board have changed, limiting general questions on the town to a question period at the end of meetings.
“We’ve changed how we handle public comments concerning our agenda and our meeting,” Cummings said.
The rule change went into effect for Monday night’s meeting. Under the change, residents will be able to ask questions about items on the agenda early in the meeting but have to hold general questions for the assigned question period toward the end of the meeting, Cummings said.
“The reason we’ve done that is that perhaps during the meeting, we may have addressed your question, so you may not have it,” he said, “or you may have even more questions.”
The board approved the site plan for the expansion of Green Kangaroo Self Storage, 13399 Main Road. The expansion calls for constructing three buildings and paving work.
