FORT ERIE, Ont. – The nighttime assault and siege on Fort Erie during the War of 1812 will be commemorated at the fort on Saturday and next Sunday, the Niagara Parks Commission announced.
Hundreds of re-enactors will mark the 199th anniversary of the battle by staging re-enactments on Saturday at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., the time of the actual nighttime assault on the fort. Visitors will be able to take a lantern tour of the fort at 9 p.m. that night. A memorial service honoring whose who fell in the battle will be held at 10:30 a.m. next Sunsay in the fort.
A final battle re-enactment will be staged at 1 p.m. next Sunday. Tickets for the event are $12.25 (Canadian) for those older than 13 and $7.95 for children 6 to 12.
