The First Niagara Foundation and the Massachusetts Avenue Project have partnered to create the “Growing Green” program, an urban agriculture project that provides jobs for disadvantaged youth while increasing access to healthy food options.

The foundation is providing $10,000 to fund the project.

The “Growing Green” program will provide 8,000 pounds of organic food for distribution through the Massachusetts Avenue Project’s Mobile Market and farm stand. It also will provide access to fresh foods for about 2,000 Buffalo residents.

About 50 students will be employed throughout the year to work on-site at 271 Grant St. every Tuesday and at the Massachusetts Avenue Project’s urban farm at 389 Massachusetts Ave. on Tuesdays through Sundays.
