A $405,000 grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation will help the BISON Scholarship Fund send 510 more economically disadvantaged children throughout Western New York to private elementary schools, officials from the privately funded tuition assistance program announced.

“The foundation is helping to create educational opportunity for our area’s neediest children,” said Amy E. Popadick, executive director of the BISON Fund, said.

Founded in 1995, the BISON Scholarship Fund awards tuition assistance grants in all eight counties of Western New York to families with demonstrated financial need. More than 20,000 scholarships have been awarded to date.
