Paramax Corp. appointed Robert Coleman senior vice president of the Western New York-based investment banking group with responsibility for the Boston, Mass., office. Previously, Coleman was CFO of the North American Industrial Fire Protection Division at Kidde Fire Protection and then CFO of the North American Fire Safety Division of United Technologies, the company that later acquired it. He obtained an MBA from Suffolk University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Bentley College.

The Buffalo International Film Festival named A. R. Gurney, an award-winning playwright, author, and educator, to its the board of advisers. Gurney, a Buffalo native who attended Nichols School, has written more than 40 plays including The Dining Room and Buffalo Gal, which recently played in New York City. Many of his works are set in his home town. He has also written novels, screenplays and has taught Humanities at MIT.

Evans Bank appointed AnnMarie Halt branch manager for the bank’s new Elmwood Village location. Halt, who currently serves as the bank’s business development officer, is a Buffalo State College graduate. Also, the bank named Keith J. Parwulski branch manager for its Lancaster branch. Parwulski most recently served as a regional manager for the northtowns branch network of Greater Buffalo Savings Bank. He graduated from the National Graduate School of Banking at Fairfield University. Mount Mercy Academy, a Catholic secondary school for young women, appointed Renee A. Joldos executive director of institutional advancement; Grace M. Gannon-Jackson director of alumnae; and Jennifer L. Paterson director of marketing and communications. Joldos holds a bachelor’s degree Buffalo State College and a master’s from Canisius College. Gannon-Jackson has a law degree from the University at Buffalo Law School and a bachelor’s degree from the College of New Rochelle. Paterson has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Canisius College.

Amherst Alarm owner and founder Tim Creenan was chosen as the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association Chapter President of the Year. Creenan has served in several statewide positions for both the NBFAA and the Western New York Alarm Association.

A new Lowe’s store is slated for opening the first quarter of 2009 at the northwest quadrant of Southwestern Boulevard and Sowles Road in Hamburg. The home improvement store will have 117,000 square feet of retail sales space and an additional 31,600 square foot garden center. The retailer expects to create up to 175 new jobs.

Quality Markets, P&C and BiLo Foods presented $52,627.49 to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, raised through the sale of paper lemons during a two-week campaign in July. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation emerged from the front-yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra Scott. The foundation has raised more than $20 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure for childhood cancer, funding over 80 research projects nationally.
