Financial Trust FCU names a new CEO

Story tools:

Financial Trust Federal Credit Union has named John Morrison its new CEO, filling a vacancy that has existed since its former CEO left to join a larger regional credit union.

Morrison, who joined the Cheektowaga credit union in 1997, was previously chief operating officer and chief information officer of the $30 million-asset member-owned cooperative. The Orchard Park resident has been involved in financial services since 1984, when he worked at Liberty National Bank.

Former longtime CEO Connie Scherrer left in May 2007 to become Buffalo-area branch manager for Rochester-based The Summit Federal Credit Union, an institution about 14 times the size of Financial Trust, with two offices locally.

Financial Trust, formerly Local 424 UAW-CIO Federal Credit Union, has more than 8,500 members. It has offices in Cheektowaga, West Seneca and North Buffalo.

Originally chartered to serve employees of American Axle & Manufacturing, the credit union now has a community charter to serve anyone who lives, works, worships or goes to school in Blasdell, Buffalo, Cheektowaga, Depew, Hamburg, Lackawanna, Lancaster, O r c h a r d Park, Sloan or West Seneca.
